The Bender is a new obstacle in the Spartan series starting in 2017.  This obstacle has the element of an inverted wall with bars instead of a wall.

To conquer this obstacle a good amount of upper body pulling strength, core strength, and lower body power is going to be necessary.

There are a couple techniques you can use.  Depending on your height and strength, the fastest way would be to jump up and grab as high as you can on the bars.  Then tuck your knees up and put your feet on the lower bar.  Then just climb like a ladder.

If you do not have the height or jumping ability to do this, then you will need to grab the lowest bar and swing yourself up.  Then you will hook your feet around the lower bar and pull yourself up.  Then you can reach for the next bar and climb.

When you hit the top it can be scary to make the transition over since there is space between the bars.  You can perform almost like a muscle up to get yourself over, or hug the bar and kick your leg over just like you would a wall.

Here are some videos of the bender obstacle.

To train for this obstacle the key is to be able to get your feet up to the bar.  Here is a simple drill to work on getting your legs up.

Then to work on getting over the wall you can check out this TRX Muscle Up drill to work on pulling yourself over.
